Organic wine
is made from grapes that have been grown without the artificial
help of chemical fertilizers or insecticides and are grown on land
that has not been exposed to these ingredients for a specified number
of years. Grapes have traditionally been one of the most heavily
sprayed crops and part of this residue can end up in your glass.
The key component to organic farming is the soil and maintaining
a healthy clean environment.
Organic Wine Making
Organic wine is most
often minimally produced and usually vintners avoid the use of sulfur
dioxide in filtering wine. Cultured yeast is not required as the
wild yeast has not been killed by insecticides and the use of sulfur
dioxide (Although natural) as a preservative is usually kept to
a minimum.
What is Biodynamic wine
Biodynamic
farming emphasizes a harmony with nature and the entire local ecosystem.
These farmers are passionate and believe all forces of nature including
the position of the moon and stars influence the grapes and ultimately
the wine.
